SILAGE PLANT AT ATLANTIC SAPPHIRE

In the summer of 2019 Landia has supplied a silage plant for the silage of by-products from slaughterhouses as well as fish that die before the slaughter at Atlantic Sapphire commercial onshore pilot plant for Atlantic Salmon farming in Hvide Sande.

Atlantic Sapphire has chosen to invest in silage plants as it offers a number of benefits in handling by-products and contributes to the company's focus on sustainability.

With silage, a higher degree of biosecurity is achieved, odor nuisance is reduced and the finished silage is pumpable, easy to store and has a value for several purposes such as additives in feed, technical oil and in biogas production.

The plant Atlantic Sapphire has invested in is a Landia 2.5 m³ BioChop silage tank as a “plug and play” solution. The production tank is pre-assembled upon delivery and only requires electric power as well an acidic stock from which it can get dosified.

The production tank can be further expanded with a connection to a storage tank or if necessary, a day-tank for capacity expansion. The Landia 2.5 m³ BioChop tank has a capacity of up to 2 tonnes/hour depending on the size of the input and the ambient temperature.

The BioChop tank is equipped with Landia's MPFR-I chopper pump, which handles the entire maceration process from whole dead fish to the finished silage. In the development of the silage tank, emphasis is placed on usability and reliability.

The control system is based on level measurement, where the plant in automatic mode automatically starts up and acid doses in proportion to the amount added and the pump runs in production mode. When the tank is not filled for a preset period, the tank goes into storage mode, where the pump will recirculate periodically to keep the silage homogeneous.

Landia's unique MPFR-I chopper pump is designed to require a minimum of maintenance when operating in salmon silage as it has no oil chamber, grease nipples or seals. Wear bushes are lubricated by the silage.

Landia BioChop tanks are available in sizes from 1 to 25 m³ and can be adapted to the individual task for example automatic valves, different size pumps depending on operating conditions and if necessary, to acquire a day-tank if higher capacity is required for any slaughterhouse, emergency or similar.
