Food waste and by-product pre-treatment
According to The U.S. Department of Agriculture, 30-40% of all the food supply in the United States is wasted, and the vast majority of the food waste goes to landfill. However, it is possible to use the food waste to generate renewable energy, instead of it going to waste, by applying it to an anaerobic digestion process. By-products from industrial kitchens, grocery chains, food production facilities, and other large-scale food waste generators can be pre-treated and used in biogas plants and/or as supplemental feedstock in digesters at municipal water resource recovery facilities. The process is typically referred to as ‘co-digestion’.
Landia offers a wide range of solutions for pre-treatment of food waste and by-products. One of these solutions is the Landia BioChop.
BioChop ensures you the full benefit of your biogas plant
The Landia BioChop is a complete processing unit (tank, grinder, and automation) that mechanically macerates and liquefies the food wastes and by-products, whereby the liquefied product can be stored and/or transported. The BioChop technology can be used in commercial food preparation facilities, produce retailers, and other sizable food waste generators. The BioChop pre-treatment technology makes the organic material readily available for use in Anaerobic Digestion plants.
For those plants that require pasteurization (heat-treatment) of the feedstock, the Landia BioChop is also available as a high-quality pasteurization system built with simple and reliable components, which ensures the correct treatment of the by-products, including pathogen reduction though pasteurization.
